Nollywood actress and Big Brother Naija (BBNaija) Season 7 winner, Ijeoma Josephina Otabor, popularly known as Phyna, has criticized the Dangote Group over what she described as negligence and insensitivity during her late sister’s burial.
In a series of emotional Instagram posts, Phyna accused the company of failing to fully take responsibility despite publicly claiming otherwise.
Phyna said that on September 13, the day of her sister’s burial, her family tried to reach the Dangote Group but received no response. She alleged that the mortuary expenses and other related costs were borne by her family, contrary to the company’s public statements.
“On Sept 13th, the day of burial, Dangote Group did not pick up all calls made to them. We were told the bills were not paid, but they claim it was. The mortuary was also covered by the family,” she wrote.
According to her, the only expense covered by the company was her sister’s hospital bill at Lagoon Hospital, while all other bills — from Auchi to Irrua — were paid by her family without any reimbursement.
Phyna also shared a copy of a letter reportedly sent by Dangote Group to her father, requesting that he acknowledge funds given for the burial. She condemned the company for allegedly drafting the letter on her father’s behalf instead of requesting one from the family directly.
“This letter sent to my dad is really painful. @dangotegroup, you killed my sister, did massive PR, gave her father money for the burial, and then wrote an acknowledgement letter pretending to be my dad, asking him to sign. If you needed acknowledgement, you could have simply requested it from the family,” she said.
The reality TV star stressed that such actions were “insensitive” and suggested that the company’s handling of the situation appeared “well calculated.”
Phyna’s public outcry has since stirred mixed reactions online, with many Nigerians weighing in on her accusations against the conglomerate.
