Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has formally defected to the Accord Party, just days after announcing his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Adeleke confirmed his move on Tuesday evening through a statement posted on his official X (Twitter) handle.
“Today, we unveiled the Accord Party, our new platform for the good people of Osun State. From Osun West to Osun East to Osun Central, this is our party — our new platform for victory come August next year,” he wrote.
The governor said his decision to join Accord was motivated by his administration’s desire to continue delivering good governance, welfare-driven policies, and democratic dividends that have earned both local and international recognition.
Adeleke stated that the Accord Party’s ideology of welfarism aligns perfectly with his government’s focus on citizens’ and workers’ welfare.
“We opted for the Accord Party because its mission of welfarism aligns with our passionate focus on citizens’ and workers’ welfare. Since I joined, I have been fascinated by the philosophy of this great party. The primary essence of government is the welfare and well-being of the people,” he added.
Welcoming the national leadership of Accord to Osun State, Adeleke charged members to maintain unity as preparations begin for the 2026 governorship election.
“You are now part of us, as I am now part of you. We are united in progress and good intentions for the people of Osun State and Nigeria at large,” he said.
He stressed the need for a united front and inclusive leadership that protects the interests of all groups.
“Our party, the Accord Party, is here to take over Osun governance and sustain the delivery of good governance in our dear state.”
Earlier in the month, Adeleke formally resigned from the PDP, citing unresolved conflicts within the party’s national leadership.
