Governorship hopeful Ambassador Olufemi Ajadi Oguntoyinbo has sought the blessings of the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade I, as his 2027 campaign efforts gather momentum. Ajadi visited the ancient palace on Tuesday, accompanied by his convoy, political allies and supporters.
He was warmly received by the monarch in a ceremony that showcased the cultural heritage for which Oyo is known. The visit, according to Ajadi, was not just a political step but an honour to the sanctity of the Alaafin’s throne.
“The Alaafin’s palace is a place of wisdom and guidance,” he said. “Anyone who intends to lead Oyo State must first seek blessings from the guardian of our traditions. I come seeking prayers, protection and royal counsel as I offer myself for service.”
Ajadi outlined his developmental vision for the state, stressing the need for youth empowerment, innovation, industrial expansion and improved livelihood in rural communities. He said his ambition was to sustain and deepen the gains of the current administration under Governor Seyi Makinde.
He expressed appreciation for the monarch’s encouragement, adding, “Kabiyesi’s words are a compass for my journey. If entrusted with leadership, I will govern with integrity, humility and a commitment to inclusive growth.”
Responding, the Alaafin praised Ajadi for recognising the value of traditional institutions and for approaching his aspiration with respect.
“My son, ambition must be rooted in service,” the monarch said. “May the ancestors guide your path if your intentions are truly for the good of Oyo State. Go forward with strength, but with purity of heart.”
Oba Owoade also advised political actors across the country to embrace peace, stressing that elections should promote unity rather than conflict.
“Politics should be about ideas and progress, not hostility,” he noted.
The visit is one of several consultations Ajadi has embarked upon as he intensifies preparations for the 2027 governorship contest.
