Grammy Award-winning Nigerian superstar Burna Boy has once again set the internet ablaze after addressing the backlash over his treatment of a couple during his show in Denver. In a candid—and fiery—Instagram livestream, the self-acclaimed African Giant made it clear that he owes no one an explanation for how he manages his concerts or his fan base.
According to Burna Boy, people are not obliged to love him or listen to his music, and he has never begged anyone to become a fan in the first place.
“I force anybody to be my fan?” he asked rhetorically, dismissing claims that his actions were unfair.
The singer went even further, stating that he prefers fans who can afford to support his music, adding that he does not want “broke fans.” He argued that artists thrive when their supporters can invest in shows, tickets, and merchandise—suggesting that financial strength among fans contributes to an artist’s growth.
His remarks, however, fueled fresh waves of criticism online. Many users slammed him for being “proud” and “elitist,” with some questioning whether he genuinely appreciates the fans who contributed to his rise.
