Phoenix, Arizona — Erika Kirk, widow of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, delivered a tearful and emotional address on Friday, vowing to carry forward her late husband’s mission after he was fatally shot during a campus event in Utah.
Speaking in a livestream from Turning Point USA’s headquarters in Arizona, Erika stood beside her husband’s empty podcast chair, offering prayers and heartfelt words. “My husband’s voice will remain,” she declared, her voice breaking with emotion.
Charlie Kirk, 31, founder of Turning Point USA and a prominent right-wing figure, was killed on Wednesday during a speaking engagement at Utah Valley University in Orem. The suspected gunman, identified as Tyler Robinson, was arrested Thursday night after surrendering to police.
A Widow’s Promise
During her remarks, Erika thanked first responders, her husband’s staff, and the White House. Addressing former President Donald Trump directly, she said: “Mr President, my husband loved you. And he knew that you loved him too.” She also expressed gratitude to Vice President JD Vance and his wife Usha, who accompanied Kirk’s casket back to Arizona on Air Force Two.
“But most of all,” she added through tears, “Charlie loved his children. And he loved me. With all his heart. And he made sure I knew that every day.”
The couple shared two young children — a one-year-old son and a three-year-old daughter. Erika admitted she was struggling to explain their father’s sudden death. “Baby, daddy loves you so much. Don’t you worry. He’s on a work trip with Jesus,” she said of her daughter.
A Defiant Response to “Evil-Doers”
In her emotional address, Erika also issued a fiery warning to those she described as “evil-doers.”
“You have no idea the fire that you have ignited within this wife. The cries of this widow will echo around the world like a battle cry,” she declared. “If you thought that my husband’s mission was powerful before, you have no idea what you just unleashed across this entire country and this world.”
She vowed that Kirk’s nationwide campus tour and his popular podcast would continue in the years ahead.
Remembering Charlie Kirk
Kirk, often described as a rising star in American conservatism, founded Turning Point USA at just 18. He played a pivotal role in mobilizing young conservatives and was a key organizer within Trump’s “Make America Great Again” movement.
While his outspoken defense of gun rights, opposition to abortion, and criticism of transgender rights made him a divisive figure, his supporters hailed him as a relatable leader who gave voice to their frustrations.
Kirk was shot during his viral Prove Me Wrong debate segment, while taking a question on gun violence and transgender issues.
National Mourning and Presidential Tribute
Former President Donald Trump, calling Kirk “a giant of his generation and a champion of liberty,” announced that he will posthumously award him the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation’s highest civilian honor. Trump confirmed he will attend Kirk’s funeral in Arizona next weekend.
Turning Point USA described its co-founder as a “martyr” and a “pioneer,” urging Americans to pray for the Kirk family.
Vice President JD Vance personally flew to Utah on Thursday to retrieve Kirk’s body and escorted his casket to Phoenix with his widow and children.
