United Capital Plc has confirmed the death of six of its employees in the tragic fire outbreak at Afriland Towers, Lagos, on Tuesday, September 16, 2025.
In a statement released on Monday via its official X page, the company identified the deceased as Jesutoni Shodipo, Kehinde Adeoye, Ndidi Osaemedike-Okeke, Olumide Oyefodunrin, Opeyemi Oloyede, and Rebecca Adenuga.
Describing the loss as “immeasurable,” the management said the late staff members were not just colleagues but part of the United Capital family.
“It is with profound grief that we announce the passing of six of our dear colleagues following the tragic fire at Afriland Towers. Their painful loss leaves an immeasurable void,” the company stated.
United Capital extended heartfelt condolences to the families, friends, and loved ones of the deceased, assuring them of continuous support during this period of mourning. It also revealed that arrangements are being made for a memorial service to honour the departed staff and celebrate their lives with dignity.
The company further called on its workforce to remain united, noting that “in this period of grief, strength must be drawn from one another.”
United Capital also commended emergency services and first responders for their efforts during the incident.
Afriland Towers, which houses the offices of United Capital Plc, United Bank for Africa (UBA), and the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), was engulfed by thick smoke last Tuesday, trapping many occupants. The incident claimed at least 10 lives, including four FIRS personnel on duty.
