ABUJA – Governors elected under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have vowed to ensure unity, fairness, and transparency ahead of the party’s National Convention slated for November 15 and 16 in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The pledge was made in Abuja during a meeting of the PDP National Convention Organising Committee (NCOC) Protocol Sub-Committee, chaired by Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, with Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang serving as co-chair.
The meeting, part of preparations for the Ibadan convention, focused on ensuring a credible process for electing 19 new members of the National Working Committee (NWC).
Governor Fintiri reaffirmed the governors’ commitment to upholding the principles of internal democracy, saying the committee would deliver a free, fair, and credible convention.
“We are fully committed and will not leave any stone unturned. We are putting in our best and making sacrifices to ensure a successful convention. Not under our leadership will this party be let down,” Fintiri said.
He assured that all aspirants would undergo a transparent screening process, with equal opportunities granted to all qualified contestants.
“Anyone who has obtained the forms and has no encumbrances in their records will be screened. Go and test your popularity in the field—we are already finalising the list of delegates,” he added.
Fintiri noted that the delegates’ list would be made public, urging members to remain calm and confident in the process.
“This is not a closed system; it’s open. Those with the majority’s support will emerge victorious,” he emphasized, calling on members to uphold discipline and unity as preparations continue.
Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang described the upcoming convention as a test of the PDP’s capacity for organisation and internal reform.
“This meeting shows the PDP is taking the convention seriously. Those who built this party will not want to see it fail in our time. We have a duty to keep this platform functional for Nigerians,” Mutfwang said.
He highlighted the importance of teamwork, especially in logistics and protocol arrangements, adding:
“Our task is clearly defined. The essence of this inaugural meeting is for us to coordinate effectively because our real work will take place in Ibadan.”
The Ibadan convention is expected to usher in new national officers and mark a key milestone in the PDP’s ongoing efforts to reposition itself for future political contests.
