Inter Miami and Lionel Messi are on the verge of agreeing to a new multiyear deal that will keep the Argentine captain in South Florida beyond his current contract, sources told ESPN.
Talks are said to be in the final stages, with only minor details left to be finalized before the agreement is submitted to Major League Soccer for official approval.
Despite speculation linking Messi to clubs in other leagues, both the player and Inter Miami have consistently expressed their desire to extend their partnership on and off the pitch.
Messi originally joined Inter Miami on July 15, 2023, signing a 2½-year contract through the end of the 2025 season. His arrival had an immediate impact — inspiring the team to its first-ever trophy, the 2023 Leagues Cup, just weeks after his debut.
Since then, Messi has helped Miami break records, including setting the MLS mark for most points in a single season and capturing the 2024 Supporters’ Shield.
In 2025, the World Cup winner has featured in 36 matches, tallying 28 goals and 14 assists across all competitions — including MLS, the Concacaf Champions Cup, the Club World Cup, and the Leagues Cup. He remains the club’s all-time leading scorer.
Inter Miami co-owner Jorge Mas has repeatedly emphasized the club’s commitment to keeping Messi long-term. “We will do everything to make sure he feels comfortable and retires in South Florida,” he previously told ESPN.
