Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has dismissed all commissioners and public officers serving under his administration, with immediate effect.
The announcement was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday evening in Port Harcourt by his Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi. The governor explained that the decision followed the recent Supreme Court judgment affecting the state’s political structure.
Before the announcement, Governor Fubara had held a valedictory session with his cabinet at the Government House in Port Harcourt, where he commended them for their contributions to the development of the state over the past two years.
“The governor has thanked members of his cabinet for their services and contributions to the growth of Rivers State, while also emphasising the significance of Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary,” the statement read.
Fubara urged citizens to remain united and work with President Bola Tinubu to build a peaceful, secure, and prosperous nation. He also reiterated his personal commitment to serving the state with renewed energy, thanking Rivers people for their support.
“Furthermore, the Governor has relieved all Commissioners and other public officers affected by the recent Supreme Court judgement of their appointments with immediate effect,” the statement added.
It will be recalled that the immediate past Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd), upon assuming office, had suspended all commissioners, special advisers, and assistants appointed by Fubara, who was suspended earlier by President Bola Tinubu following the declaration of a state of emergency in the state.
Ibas also dissolved state boards and suspended the heads of parastatals. With his exit from the state on September 18, the fate of Fubara’s appointees had remained uncertain until Wednesday’s decisive announcement.
