Barcelona have confirmed that midfielder Gavi will undergo a minor arthroscopic surgery following his latest knee setback, just days after the club also announced an injury blow to Fermin Lopez.
The 21-year-old had been undergoing conservative physical therapy for the past two weeks, with hopes of returning after three weeks of rest. However, recent scans showed the treatment had not produced the desired results. The club has now decided surgery is the best course of action to address his internal meniscus injury.
According to a statement from Barça, the procedure will be performed by Dr. Joan Carles Monllau, under the supervision of the club’s medical team. No official return date has been provided, though the Catalan side remain optimistic about his availability for their upcoming Champions League fixture.
The news compounds Barça’s injury concerns, as Fermin Lopez was recently sidelined for several weeks after picking up a knock in their La Liga clash against Getafe. Other key players, including Lamine Yamal, are also still recovering, leaving coach Xavi with limited midfield options during a congested run of fixtures.
