Manchester United survived a late Chelsea fightback to secure a 2-1 victory in a rain-soaked encounter at Old Trafford, with both teams reduced to 10 men in a dramatic first half.
Chelsea’s night began disastrously when goalkeeper Robert Sánchez was shown a straight red card just five minutes in for bringing down Bryan Mbeumo, who was through on goal. Manager Enzo Maresca quickly reshuffled his side, introducing backup keeper Filip Jorgensen and defender Tosin Adarabioyo, before being forced into another early change as Andrey Santos replaced the injured Cole Palmer in the 21st minute.
United capitalised on the numerical advantage, with Bruno Fernandes opening the scoring in the 14th minute before Casemiro doubled the lead with a powerful header in the 37th. However, the Brazilian midfielder was dismissed just before halftime after collecting a second yellow card for a foul on Santos, leaving both teams down to 10 men.
Chelsea pressed in the second half and Trevoh Chalobah pulled one back in the 80th minute, setting up a tense finale. Despite the pressure, United held firm to claim only their second win of the season, easing the growing scrutiny on manager Ruben Amorim.
