The National Examinations Council (NECO) has officially released the results of the 2025 Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE) for internal candidates, 54 days after the last paper was written.
Announcing the results on Wednesday in Minna, NECO Registrar/Chief Executive, Prof. Dantani Wushishi, commended President Bola Tinubu for his continued support of the council, describing it as vital in strengthening transparency, accountability, and reforms in Nigeria’s education system.
He also appreciated the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa; the Minister of State for Education, Prof. Suwaiba Ahmad; and the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Abel Enitan, for their collaboration in implementing reforms that improved the credibility of the assessment process.
- Total candidates registered: 1,367,210 (685,514 males, 681,696 females)
- Total candidates who sat: 1,358,339 (680,292 males, 678,047 females)
- Five credits & above including Mathematics and English: 818,492 (60.26%)
- Five credits & above irrespective of Mathematics and English: 1,144,496 (84.26%)
- Special needs candidates: 1,622 (including hearing and visual impairments)
The council recorded a significant drop in malpractice cases, with 3,878 candidates involved, compared to 10,094 in 2024 — representing a 61.58% reduction. However, 38 schools across 13 states were flagged for mass cheating and will face sanctions. Nine supervisors were also recommended for blacklisting due to aiding malpractice and poor supervision.
Prof. Wushishi further disclosed that disruptions were recorded in eight schools in Adamawa State’s Lamorde LGA due to communal clashes, affecting 13 subjects and 29 papers. NECO is working with the state government to reschedule exams for the affected candidates.
- Kano: 68,159 candidates (5.02%) with five credits & above, including English and Mathematics – highest nationwide.
- Lagos: 67,007 candidates (4.93%) – second.
- Oyo: 48,742 candidates – third.
- Lowest: Gabon centre, with no candidate meeting the benchmark.
Wushishi noted that, under the revised curriculum, NECO will now conduct the SSCE on only 38 subjects to reduce result processing time.
He assured stakeholders that NECO remains committed to fairness, integrity, and timely delivery of results in line with national development goals.
