FC Barcelona have released their squad list ahead of Thursday night’s UEFA Champions League opener against Newcastle United at St. James’ Park.
The big boost for manager Hansi Flick comes in the form of Frenkie de Jong’s return. The Dutch midfielder, who missed the weekend’s La Liga victory over Valencia with a minor injury sustained on international duty, has been declared fit by the medical team and is set to feature against the Magpies.
However, Barca will continue to be without teenage star Lamine Yamal, who remains sidelined with pubic discomfort. Gavi, Alejandro Balde, and goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen also miss out through injury.
Summer signing Joan Garcia has been named in the squad and could make his Champions League debut, while fellow arrivals Marcus Rashford and Roony Bardghji are also included. Rising prospects Marc Bernal, Toni Fernandez, and Jofre Torrents have been handed call-ups and could make their first appearances in Europe’s elite competition.
