Arsenal underlined their Premier League title ambitions with a dominant 3-0 victory over Nottingham Forest at the Emirates, showcasing the depth and quality of their new-look squad despite being hit by multiple injuries.
Following a £250 million summer outlay that brought in eight new players, Mikel Arteta’s side delivered a performance that justified such aggressive investment. Five of the signings started against Forest, with statement arrivals Viktor Gyokeres and Martin Zubimendi already looking like key figures.
Arteta’s revamped squad structure appears to have moved away from last season’s “untouchables,” with even £100m man Declan Rice named on the bench. The Spaniard’s approach ensures Arsenal can rotate without sacrificing quality — something that cost them dearly in last year’s title race and Champions League campaign.
Injuries Fail to Derail Arsenal
The Gunners were without Bukayo Saka, Kai Havertz, and William Saliba, while captain Martin Ødegaard limped off after just 18 minutes. In previous seasons, such absences would have spelled disaster. But this time, Arsenal responded with authority.
England internationals Noni Madueke and Eberechi Eze stepped up, driving Arsenal’s attacking play, while Cristhian Mosquera impressed on his full debut in defence. Gyokeres added a ruthless edge up front, scoring Arsenal’s second with a clinical finish.
Arsenal have now won three of their first four league matches, remain unbeaten, and are yet to concede from open play.
Reflecting on the summer rebuild, Arteta explained why bolstering the squad was non-negotiable.
“If we wouldn’t have done that, with the injuries we have, we would have been in a very different place,” he said.
“The standards of this league and Europe demand it. Players will have to play 70 games a season. That’s impossible to sustain without more depth. Now we have options, and everyone feels important.”
Former Arsenal defender Martin Keown hailed the display on TNT Sports:
“That was a real scary show of strength from Arsenal. Without Havertz and Saka, problems last season, but not this time. Madueke and Eze were outstanding, Gyokeres clinical, and even Mosquera was excellent on debut. At the moment, Arsenal look so strong.”
The Gunners now turn their attention to the Champions League, where they face Athletic Bilbao in Spain on Tuesday. Arteta will hope to carry this momentum into Europe as Arsenal look to prove their credentials not only in the Premier League but on the continental stage.
