The Federal Government has issued a warning that several areas across 16 states may experience heavy rainfall and possible flooding between October 4 and October 8, 2025.
According to a flood alert released by the National Flood Early Warning Centre under the Federal Ministry of Environment, the advisory was signed by Usman Bokani, Director of the Erosion, Flood and Coastal Zone Management Department.
The forecast indicates that 39 locations could be impacted across the affected states.
The states and locations include:
- Delta State: Asaba
- Yobe State: Damaturu
- Sokoto State: Isa
- Zamfara State: Anka, Bungudu, Gusau, Kaura-Namoda, Maradun, Shinkafi
- Katsina State: Jibia
- Oyo State: Kisi, Oyo
- Kebbi State: Ribah, Sakaba, Yelwa
- Kano State: Gwarzo, Sumaila, Karaye
- Niger State: Kontagora, Mashegu, Mokwa, New-Bussa, Rijau, Wushishi
- Kwara State: Kosubosu
- Benue State: Agaku, Buruku, Gboko, Katsina-Ala, Ugba
- Borno State: Briyel
- Bayelsa State: Brass, Ikpidiama, Odoni
- Cross River State: Edor, Ikom
- Rivers State: Itu, Ahoada
- Enugu State: Nsukka
The ministry urged state governments, emergency agencies, and residents in flood-prone areas to take preventive measures to minimize damage and loss of life.
Recent data from the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) shows that, as of September 20, flooding across Nigeria had already claimed 232 lives and displaced over 121,000 people.
The 2025 national flood dashboard further indicates that at least 339,658 individuals have been affected so far, with 681 sustaining varying degrees of injuries.
