Nigerian travellers seeking easier access to Europe now have more long-term options as 29 Schengen countries offer five-year multiple-entry visas, allowing holders to visit freely within the region.
A five-year multiple-entry Schengen visa gives travellers the flexibility to enter any of the 29 member countries multiple times over a five-year period. However, each stay must not exceed 90 days within any 180-day window.
The visa is particularly beneficial for frequent travellers, business professionals, and individuals with strong travel histories, offering a range of advantages — from avoiding repeated visa applications to saving on fees and reducing documentation and interview requirements.
While the decision to issue a five-year visa rests solely with the embassy or consulate, applicants with consistent travel records are more likely to qualify. Those with a history of multiple-entry Schengen visas over the past three years, who travel at least twice yearly to the Schengen zone, and who comply with all immigration rules stand a higher chance of approval.
Applicants must also:
- Submit a cover letter stating the need for long-term travel.
- Provide proof of financial stability and valid travel insurance covering the Schengen area.
- Demonstrate a clean immigration history and valid travel documents.
